On the clock

A full-length paper, timed.

Each paper has its own time limit, a countdown and a question map, so your child gets used to working at test pace. Reading papers put the text beside its questions.

  • Numeracy. 36 questions in Year 3, 42 in Year 5 and 48 in Years 7 and 9.

  • Selective practice. Mathematical Reasoning has 35 questions and Thinking Skills 40.

  • OC practice. Mathematical Reasoning has 35 questions, Reading 33 answers (14 questions, some with several parts) and Thinking Skills 30.

  • Any screen. It runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer.

Marked on hand-in

See exactly where every mark went.

Multiple-choice and number answers are marked the moment the paper is handed in. Open the review and each question shows the answer your child gave, the right answer and a model answer with the working.

  • Right beside each other. Your child's answer and the right answer, on the same card.

  • A model answer for every question. All 5,744 marked questions have a model answer with the working.

  • The same marks every time. Multiple-choice and number answers are marked by rules, not AI, so a right answer is always marked right.

What next

Know what to practise next.

After each paper, XReady lists the topics where your child lost the most marks, so the next session goes where it counts.

  • Topics, not guesses. Every question belongs to a topic such as Number, Measurement, Space, Algebra, Statistics or Probability.

  • Marks and topics. XReady shows marks and topics. It does not give an estimate or a rank.

Written answers too

Written answers marked in seconds, by criterion.

When your child hands in a paper, their written answers are marked by AI straight away, against the paper's own marking guide. For each criterion the review says whether it was met, why, and quotes your child's own words back to them.

  • A guide, clearly labelled. Every AI mark says it is a guide and not a mark from the test makers, and a teacher may mark differently.

  • Your switch, your say. If you switch AI off for your child, nothing is marked by AI and the review says so plainly.

  • Only where there is a guide to mark against. A question with no marking guide is not marked by AI. The review says so and shows the model answer to compare with.

  • Kept apart from the marks. AI guide marks sit in their own panel on the results page. They are never added to the marks the rules gave.

The review of a written answer: a short story problem, the child's answer, then each marking criterion with whether it was met, why, and the child's own words quoted.

Practise the skill again

Missed one? Try a similar one.

After a paper, under a maths question, your child can press "Try a similar one". They get a fresh question on the same skill with different numbers, check their answer, and press "Show me how" to see the working one step at a time. It is made by rules, with no AI.

  • New numbers every time. Another one makes another question, so there is always something to try.

  • Step by step. Each step is a short sentence and the line of working, then why it works.

  • Just for practice. It never changes the paper's marks, and nothing it does is recorded as a result.

  • Not every question. The button is on 805 of XReady's 1,812 maths questions: the ones whose skill we can safely generate new numbers for.

Under a maths question in the review: a similar percentage question with new numbers, then the working shown one step at a time and why it works.

Under a maths question in the review: a new question on the same skill, then the working step by step.

Practice that feels like progress

Medals for the practice, not the rank.

Your child earns a medal for the work they do: a first paper, three days of practice in a week, beating their own best. A medal says what they did, never how they compare with anyone else.

  • Earned, never bought. Nothing to buy, nothing that expires, no points and no leaderboard.

  • Yours to see. Parents see the same shelf on their own screen.

Three tests

Foundation, OC and Selective.

The question types differ from test to test, so each line is written for its own test: Thinking Skills puzzles for Selective and OC, number and measurement for NAPLAN.

  • Foundation: Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, all four domains.
  • OC: Year 4, for Year 5 entry.
  • Selective: Year 6, for Year 7 entry.

Questions parents ask

Are these the real NAPLAN, OC or Selective papers?
No. They are original practice papers, written in the style of each test. Where practice material has been released we set their difficulty against it: OC and Selective against the NSW Department of Education's released practice tests, and Foundation against one released NAPLAN form. XReady is independent and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, ACARA or the NSW Department of Education.
Which years does it cover?
NAPLAN practice papers (Foundation) for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. OC practice papers for children sitting the OC test (Year 4, the test is sat in Year 4 for Year 5 entry). Selective practice papers for children sitting the Selective test (Year 6, the test is sat in Year 6 for Year 7 entry).
Which plan do I need?
Pick the test your child is sitting. NAPLAN is for NAPLAN practice papers in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, A$9.99 a month. OC is for the OC practice papers (Year 4, the test is sat in Year 4 for Year 5 entry), A$9.99 a month, and includes the Foundation papers (NAPLAN practice). Selective is for the Selective practice papers (Year 6, the test is sat in Year 6 for Year 7 entry), A$9.99 a month, and also includes the Foundation papers. If your children are at different stages, or you are not sure yet, OC and Selective is A$14.99 a month and has every paper. Every plan is per family, covers every child in it, and starts with a 7-day free trial. You can change plan from your account page at any time.
How much does it cost, and how does the free trial work?
from A$9.99 a month per family (A$14.99 for OC and Selective together), after a 7-day free trial. Each plan covers every child in the family. You need a card to start the trial. It renews every month until you cancel, and we email you before the trial ends.
How is my child's writing marked?
Straight after hand-in, an AI marks each written answer against the paper's own marking guide or, for a short answer, its model or example answer. For every criterion it says whether it was met and quotes your child's own words. It is labelled as a guide, it is not a mark from the test makers, and a teacher may mark differently. Questions with no marking guide or example answer are not marked by AI. If you switch AI off for your child, nothing is marked by AI. Multiple-choice and number answers are marked by rules, not AI. AI requests are processed by Anthropic in the United States. Only the child's answer, the question and the paper's marking guide or example answer are sent. The child's name is replaced first, and we send no email address, school or other personal details. The child's answer is checked for anything worrying before it goes, and a worrying answer is held for a person to look at instead of being marked.
What is “Try a similar one”?
After a paper, under many maths questions, your child can press it for a new question on the same skill with different numbers, then see the working step by step. It is made by rules, with no AI, never changes the paper's marks, and is on 805 of 1,812 maths questions.

Questions parents ask

What is a Foundation practice test?
It is a practice test written in the style of NAPLAN: the same kinds of questions and the same time pressure, but original questions rather than the real papers. XReady's Foundation papers are timed, and multiple-choice and number questions are marked the moment your child hands in.
Are these the real NAPLAN, OC or Selective papers?
No. They are original practice papers written in the style of each test, with difficulty set against released practice material where it exists. XReady is independent and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, ACARA or the NSW Department of Education.
